I got better….

January 21st, 2009 | Category: Personal

Yes, it’s true. I got sick. Rare thing, that is.

All I know is I was heading in to work on Monday, got hit with a massive headache that seemed like two irate wombats were battling to the death in my head, and an urge to vomit. Not a good thing when you’re in someone else’s car.

I managed to sit through about 10 minutes of work before running to the back and hacking up what I believe was 3 days worth of food. I then proceeded to head back out to the Precinct and start the cleaning that I was supposed to be doing anyway.

I managed to get all the cleaning done and get the report for my supervisor finished, before I just felt so bad I asked to leave early since one of the guys offered me a ride home if I left.

Yesterday, I still felt like I had one irate wombat in my head. I guess he won the battle. I didn’t feel nauseous, but I still felt like crap. I ended up going out and getting my new stove ordered despite this, and grabbed something for myself to eat.

Today, I still have somewhat of a headache, but I think that’ll go away. I really just want to go back to bed, but I figure I might as well be up for the day to get something accomplished.

Caught: Belkin Pays 65 Cents For Fake Good Reviews on Amazon

January 17th, 2009 | Category: Tech

Reposted from Digg:

“Users are paid 65 cents for every positive review they leave on an Amazon.com listing for a Belkin router which has consistently gotten bad reviews in the past from users who say that the product is “loaded with Bugs, goes on & off whenever it feels like, and comes at a hefty price.” ”

Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me. I haven’t really heard good things about Belkin’s networking equipment….well….ever. I think this is just underhanded though. Belkin needs to shape up and fix their equipment rather than pay people a whopping 65 cents per review (yes, per review, and yes, you can post multiple). This is an example of why people don’t trust computer equipment manufacturers anymore.

AMD to Cut 1,100 Positions, Initiate Temporary Salary Cuts

January 17th, 2009 | Category: Tech

From Digg.com:
“AMD will cut 1,100 positions in the first quarter through attrition and layoffs, as one of its measures to cut costs during these recessionary times. ”

AMD seems to have been struggling for a while. I think that they provide necessary competition for the markets they’re in, but they really need to step up their quality as well as their focus in order to continue operating at all. Let’s hope this is the start of some sort of business revamp that will get them back on track.

Steve Jobs Probably Won’t Come Back to Apple

January 15th, 2009 | Category: Tech

Reposted from Digg.com:

“Steve Jobs’ medical leave from Apple is likely to be permanent, analysts say.

In a letter to Apple staff on Wednesday, Jobs said he was taking a five-month medical leave because his health issues are “more complex than I originally thought.”

In the note, Jobs promised to return to Apple in the summer, which many are hoping is true.”

I think this might be a major turning point for Apple. Losing Jobs might have severe impacts on the state of mind of some Apple users, and the company as a whole may take a while to recover. These are only my thoughts on it, but you’re more than welcome to debate this.

Will Windows 7 Make Old Hardware Feel New Again?

January 15th, 2009 | Category: Tech

Reposted from Digg.com:
There are a lot of Windows XP users who are hoping Windows 7 is their operating system salvation. Even though it’s pretty obvious that Win7 is more like Vista than XP, but there is still heavy interest from XP users.

—————–

I think this is a great opportunity for people to learn that operating system upgrades are a GOOD THING. I see too many people who refuse to migrate from Windows XP because they just heard from some random guy that “The Vistas” is bad and nothing will work. There needs to be a general re-education of computer users as to WHY they make new operating systems. In my opinion, the decision to wait as long as they did to release Vista, while being mostly because of coding delays, was a bad one. If they had released it earlier, there would not be as many problems with people not wanting to migrate as there are now. People have gotten TOO used to XP.

Windows 7 is the computer industry’s chance to reeducate people and keep them wanting to know more about their computers.
