Electronic Cigarette Community – Stand Together

This is what the e-cigarette community needs. Let’s all pull together to show that this is the future.

DE Video Post #2 – The Joye 510 vs. The SS No. 7

October 11th, 2009 | Category: Personal,Tech,Vaping

Welcome back, all. Herein I present the second video-post of Darkened Eyes history, where I give my pros and cons between the SS No. 7 and the Joye 510 (otherwise known as the Titan, the Dura, the Yeti, etc.) e-cigarettes.

I’ll likely be back with numbers 3 and 4 being individual reviews of each one, now that I’ve had them for a while, but I need to free up some space on this hard drive before I can do that.

I do happen to have a spare drive laying around though, I might image that as a base OSX image just for video editing for this kind of thing. We shall see.

Without further blabbering from me, here is video-post number 2:

I know I promised that I would get off the couch for this one, but it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment type recording. Hopefully I can find a spot in the apartment where I can record and it looks a little more professional…ish.

DE Video Post #1 – The SS No. 7 Vaporizer

October 03rd, 2009 | Category: Personal,Tech,Vaping

I know the quality of this sucks, it was shot using the iSight camera in my MacBook.

Maybe if I decide to start doing this more often I’ll move to somewhere off the couch and make it look a little more professional.

With that being said, let me present the first Darkened Eyes Video Post: The SS No. 7 Personal Vaporizer!

Update: This video is pretty much just a little informative video about what an e-cigarette or personal vaporizer actually is. Once I get my 510s (which should be in the next few days or so), I’ll post up a compare/contrast review type thing. Probably do the same once I get to try out the Johnson Creek flavor sampler pack of e-liquid I’ll be receiving on Tuesday. Maybe this video thing will become a semi-regular occurrence after all…

Vaping, part 2.

October 03rd, 2009 | Category: Personal,Vaping

So here’s my followup post to the Vaping article I posted a few days ago. After spending a couple of days with this device, I’ve completely switched to it and off of regular ‘analog’ cigarettes. I much prefer the feeling that vaping gives rather than smoking, and the fact that there’s no chemicals not only going into me, but into the air around me is a great benefit.

That being said, I’ve placed an order for a new model of vaporizer, a Joye 510 model, as the model I’ve got (the SS Choice No. 7, which is a rebrand of another model which I believe is the RN4081) came with a faulty battery and needs to be charged every few hours. The 510 apparently has a slightly shorter battery life, but I also ordered a Personal Charging Case for it, which can recharge the batteries 4 times from an internal battery, and charge itself and batteries through USB. I also ordered a straight-up USB charger for the device as well.

The batteries on the 510s are manual, which means that there’s a button on them that activates the device, rather than the automatic batteries on my No. 7, which is activated just by inhaling from the device.

Maybe if I get ambitious I’ll post a *gasp* video review of the No. 7, and one of the 510 once I get it.

Anyway, I heartily recommend anyone who smokes seriously look into e-cigarettes/personal vaporizers, and if you want some serious information on the devices/liquids/experience, you can check out Vapeatron or E-Cigarette-Forum for more info and a great community for the people who use these devices.

Keep on vapin’, and keep your eyes open. We’re watching…

Vaping

September 29th, 2009 | Category: Personal,Tech,Vaping

So today begins my experience with “vaping”, or using an electronic cigarette. So far it’s a little under par, but that could be me just not being used to the experience. Using the device is simple, you just fill the cartridges with the liquid solution, slide it onto the end of the atomizer, screw on the battery, and smoke.

It’s a little harder to smoke than a normal cigarette, to me, but the smoke is a lot smoother and doesn’t burn like regular smoke does (mostly because it’s not actually smoke, but more like water vapor, hence “vaping”). The device looks like a cigarette (albeit larger), and even has an LED on the end of the battery that lights up when you’re inhaling through the device. The major benefit of this is that since there is no burning tobacco, there is no carcinogens and chemicals to harm your lungs.

The cartridges are supposed to last for roughly 12-15 cigarettes worth of smoking, but so far I’ve only gotten about 5 at maximum, though this might also be attributed to getting used to how much to fill them. The instructions that came with the fluid said 4-5 drops in the cartridge should do it, but I’ve been finding that I’ve needed to put in upwards of 7 to get a decent experience out of them.

I’m sure that as I keep using the device, I’ll get more used to it and get more comfortable with where I need to be with adding fluid and such.

If anyone else wants to check out a starter kit, don’t hesitate to check out where I picked up mine at http://www.ecigaretteschoice.com

I picked up the SS Choice No.7 Micro Starter Kit Bundle 1, it comes with 1 atomizer, 2 batteries that are supposed to last for 275 puffs, 5 cartridges that contain a “regular tobacco” flavored solution, 10 blank cartridges, a 30Ml bottle of fluid to fill the blanks (I got Menthol flavor) that is supposed to last for 60 refills, plus the charger and power cord.

I’ll likely post more on this as I keep using the device and get more used to it. I’m hoping to completely replace real cigarettes with it.

Keep your eyes open. We’re watching you.
